On March 31, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke by phone with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam, discussing many topics, including strengthening bilateral partnerships and economic relations as well as the war situation in Ukraine, according to the Vietnam News Agency and the announcement of the German Federal Government.

German Federal Government Spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said in a statement on March 31 that the two leaders “exchanged topics, including strengthening bilateral partnerships and relations economy, as well as on the war in Ukraine,” adding that the two also discussed cooperation in climate and energy protection, as well as international issues.

It is known that this is the first time General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has raised his views on the tense situation between Russia and Ukraine with a foreign politician, and it seems that according to the way the Vietnamese press has reported, Prime Minister Scholz is the one who raised the issue.

In this regard, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that Vietnam’s consistent policy is to respect the basic principles of the United Nations, including respect for independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. of nations, peacefully resolving international disputes, without using force or threatening to use force,” the VNA added.

Trong also hoped that relevant parties would promote dialogue and negotiations to end hostilities and restore peace on the basis of respecting the legitimate interests of the parties and in accordance with international law.
